My Journey to obtaining the CPACC IAAP Qualification
Embarking on the path to earning the Certified Professional in Accessibility Core Competencies (CPACC) qualification from the International Association of Accessibility Professionals (IAAP) was a significant milestone in my career. I had been working as an accessibility consultant and researcher for a decade, passionately promoting inclusive research. While I had practical experience, I felt the need for formal recognition of my skills and knowledge. The CPACC certification, known for its comprehensive curriculum and industry recognition, seemed like the perfect next step.
The Decision to Pursue CPACC
Deciding to pursue the CPACC certification was both exciting and daunting. I knew it would require a substantial commitment of time and effort, but I was eager to deepen my understanding of accessibility principles and best practices. I believed that achieving this certification would not only enhance my credibility but also enable me to make a more significant impact in my field.
Preparing for the Exam
I started by reviewing the official IAAP study materials, as well as joining online forums and study groups. Compaies such as Deque also offer more formal training at additional cost, however, I found that the resources provided by IAAP were substantial for my needs. These resources were invaluable, offering insights and tips from others who had already taken the exam.- Creating a Study Plan: To manage my preparation effectively, I created a detailed study plan. I allocated specific times each day for studying, focusing on different topics such as web accessibility, disability laws and standards, and universal design principles. This structured approach helped me cover the extensive material without feeling overwhelmed.
- Balancing Work and Study: Balancing my full-time job with studying for the CPACC exam was challenging. There were days when I felt exhausted, juggling project deadlines and study sessions. However, my passion for accessibility kept me motivated. I reminded myself that this certification would equip me with the knowledge to advocate more effectively for inclusive design.
The Exam
As the exam date approached, I felt a mix of nerves and excitement. I had put in 2 months of preparation, and now it was time to put my knowledge to the test. The CPACC exam was comprehensive, covering a wide range of topics related to accessibility. It was challenging, but I felt confident in my preparation.During the exam, I encountered some difficult questions that tested my understanding and application of accessibility principles. Managing exam anxiety was crucial, and I reminded myself that I had done everything possible to prepare.
